GSS Chat Help Page
Thanks for wanting to learn how to talk to every other GSSer who wants
to...IN REAL TIME!!! Yes, it's not perfect...newsgroup is coming soon.
But if you want to, here's how to use it...
All you need to know to use it is that you click on the chatroom entryway
on the home page, type your name at the login prompt (I prefer real
names...makes it easier for me to remember who you all are), and start
typing. To quit type /quit. And please quit because I don't
really have time to be an administrator. If you want to know a little
more of what it can do (there's much, much more) read below, or just hit me to start talking
now.
Chat Command Listing:
- /? displays a list of commands for you to look at (if you
don't remember them)
- /help will get you help while you're in the chatroom
- /about will give you information on the current chatroom
- /me will give you information about yourself
- /quit will do exactly that...quit the chatroom
- /list will list everyone that is in the same room as yourself
currently
- /listall will tell you everyone that is currently chatting
(regardless of what channel they are on)
- /do followed by some text will send it to the
channel you're in (so everyone in that channel can see it on their screen)
- /yell followed by some text will send it to everyone
in the chatroom regardless of what channel they're on...if you're in
Talk and Carla's in Hot Topics, this would be one way to
get her attention...
- /page followed by a username will page that user to
come to a current channel
- /channel will list all available channels
- /channel folllowed by a number will change you so
you're in that channel
- /whisper followed by a username and then some
text will send a message to one user only (talking to one
individual instead of all of us...a rather rude thing to do but it could
be useful...)
- /msg will show you all of the messages in the current channel
- /msg followed by some text will post a message to
that channel
- /info will give you some into on people who've logged into
our chat and currently using it
- /show will show you the values of your user
variables...things that identify you in the chatroom
- /clear will clear your screen with all blank lines
- /set will show you all of the variables you can set like...
- /set name followed by some text will change your
name on the chatroom to the text
- /set subject followed by some text will change the
subject of the channel to the text (useful if you want to discuss
something specific, like a reunion)
- /set echo followed by on or off will change
the echo settings (whether you see what you type of not)
- /set away followed by on or off will let
other people if you are away from your computer, but you left the chatroom
open (like if you go the to the WC or something...)
- /set awaymsg followed by some text will define what
the chatroom will say when you're away from the computer
- /set userinfo followed by some text will define what
the chatroom will say about you when you're not away from the computer
- /set ignore followed by a username will tell the
chatroom to not send you messages from that person
- /set announce followed by on or off will
tell the chatroom to send or not send you any announcements
- /recent will list the recent users of the chatroom
We do have dicerolling options also...for those of you who play D&D and
want to use this as a haven for it...
So now you can go to the
chatroom, or if you're just not frisky enough just merely go back to the homepage.
